Norway In A Nutshell

Day 1. depart USA

Day 2. Bergen                                

Arrive in Bergen and transfer to your hotel down town.  In the evening try Bryggeloftet or Fløien Folkrestaurant, on the top of Mt. Fløyen, for a traditional Bergen meal from the sea, or stay by the waterfront in the old Hanseatic part of town. (B)

Day 2 Bergen

After breakfast At 10am enjoy a tour of Grieg’s home, Troldhaugen, as well as Old Bergen.  In the afternoon explore all the city has to offer.  Be sure to spend some time at the Fish and Flower Markets along the harbor. 

Start your sightseeing tour in the center of Bergen and continue to Old Bergen, an open air museum.  Spend some time learning the history of this Hanseatic City before departing for Troldhaugen, the home of composer Edvard Grieg.  On the way to Troldhaugen the tour drives to Nattlandsfjettet for one of the best panoramic views of the city.  The 3hr tour ends in the center of Bergen at the Fløibanen. Day 3 Bergen to Balestrand

After breakfast take the 8:00am Fjord Express Ferry from Bergen to Balestrand, arriving at 11:50am.  Enjoy the beautiful Sognefjord as you sail past the numerous waterfalls and mountainside farms.  Your hotel is located right on the fjord.  In the evening enjoy a wonderful dinner buffet prepared with traditional Norwegian cuisine.

Day 4  Balestrand – Fjærland – Balestrand

After a Buffet breakfast at the hotel.  Today enjoy the excursion to Fjaerland and the Glacier. Depart Balestrand by boat at 0815. Cruise on the Fjaerlandsfjord, Arrive Fjaerland at 0930. A motor coach will be waiting on the pier to bring passengers on a tour to the Glacier. Stop for visit to the Glacier Museum. Retun to Fjaerland.  Time available for refreshments or lunch in Fjaerland.  Depart Fjaerland by the boat at 1540 Arrive back in Balestrand at 1655. Dinner and overnight at the Kvikne hotel.

Day 5 Balestrand - Oslo

After a leisurely breakfast, board the morning ferry from Balestrand to Flåm, which arrives at 1:25pm.  Then take the famous Flåm Railway at 3:30pm to Myrdal.  Have your cameras ready as this scenic train stops for photo opportunities of the idyllic valley below.  You then transfer to the Bergen Line train that connects with the Flåm Rail in Myrdal and arrives into Oslo at 9:58pm.  Upon arrive make your way to your hotel and check in.  You may want to take a taxi from either the National Theater Station or the Central Station to your hotel.

Day 6, Oslo - onward

After breakfast Enjoy a day in Oslo, Norway’s capital city, before flying off to Stockholm.  There are plenty of gardens and museums for you to explore and enjoy.  You can purchase a 24hr Oslo Pass for free admissions to the museums and free public transportation as well as discounts at some stores and restaurants throughout the city.  On your own you can take a relaxing hike, take the T-Bane to Frognerseteren and walk down through the forest to Holmenkollen.

-Bygdøy, the Viking Ship Museum and the Kon Tiki

-The Norwegian Folk Museum

-The National Gallery

-The Munch Museum

-Vigeland Sculpture Park

-Frognerseteren, a nice small restaurant with outdoor seating overlooking the Oslo Fjord, a must see.

-Karl Johanns Street the Walking Street

Late afternoon transfer to airport by express train for onward flight.

Of course this can be arranged in Reverse starting in Oslo.
