Denmark 11 Day Tour

Day 01,  
Dept USA on SAS.  

Day 2, 
Arrival CPH on SAS at 1315.  Transfer to the First Hotel or similar.
Welcome dinner in Tivoli Garden, a short walk from the hotel. (D) 

Day 3, 
After breakfast a city tour of Copenhagen.  Tour ends at Rosenborg Castle,
where you can see the Crown Jewels on your own, or at the Walking Street,
where you can stroll through the walking street back to the hotel.  The afternoon
is free.  Dinner at The Planetarium a very short walk from the hotel. (Overnight at
The First Hotel. (B/D)

Day 4, 
After breakfast we embark on a North Sealand Castle tour.   First stop is
Frederiksborg Castle, which today is a national museum.   We continue to
Gilleleje Harbor visiting with the Mayor at his office, walking down to the
Church at Gilleleje showing how the Danish Jews were hidden before shipping
them across to Sweden, saving them from capture by the occupying German
Forces (Oct 1943). See the boat that belonged to the old Fisherman Niels
Sorensen, one of the brave fishermen who carried out the daring crossing
amidst German patrol boats.  Have late lunch at Karen and Marie’s Restaurant,
in Gilleleje Harbor.  After lunch drive to Elsinore, visit Hamlets Castle
(Kronborg) and Late afternoon return to Copenhagen and the hotel.  (B/L)

Day 5,   
After Breakfast our bus departs at about 0900 for Roskilde.   Here we will go
to Roskilde, visit The Cathedral, where the Royal Family for generations have
been placed in their final resting place. After the Cathedral we will visit the
Viking Ship Museum nearby, seeing how the Vikings over 1000 years ago
managed their seafaring ways.  Lunch will be on your own, we can make an
appropriate stop.  Early afternoon we will continue to Odense and check into
the Hans Christian Andersen SAS Radisson Hotel.  The afternoon is free for
anyone wanting to visit Hans Christian Andersen’s home and museum located
200 yards from the hotel. Dinner will be at Den Gamle Kro in Odense a short
walk from the hotel. (B/D)

Day 6, 
After breakfast the bus departs at about 0900 for Egeskov Castle We will see the
park, the Maze, the Museums, playground and Castle.  You can have lunch on
your own in their cafeteria style restaurant, before we continue on to Ribe.  Check
into the hotel Dagmar for the overnight.  Dinner will be at a local restaurant across
the street or in the hotel.  After dinner at 8:00pm we will take a walking tour with the
“Night Watchman” who will guide us through the old town of Ribe.

Day 7, 
After breakfast we will visit the Ribe Cathedral, across the street from the hotel, and
see more of Denmark’s 1000 plus years of History.   You will have some time on your
own and lunch on your own in Ribe before we continue north to Legoland and Vejle. 
We will make a brief stop of about 1 ½ hour at Legoland before continuing to Vejle
Centre Hotel for our overnight.  Dinner will be in a local restaurant about 10 minutes
walk away from the hotel.  (B/D)   

Day 8, 
After Breakfast we will leave Vejle early in order to arrive at Aarhus Old Town for a tour. 
We will spend about 2 hours there.  After Lunch on your own we will continue to
Rebild Hills.  There you will see A little of how the Danes and the Danish American
Society celebrates the US Independence Day, the 4th of July. You will also see the
replica of the Lincoln Log Cabin build there.  The Rebild National Park Society is
more than 80 years old, created by Danes immigrated to The US.  These Danes
came home to Denmark and celebrated the US Independence Day with their family
and friends in Denmark.  This tradition is carried on as the largest 4th of July celebration
outside the US.  Each year the main speaker is a dignitary from the US, in the past
it has been such personalities as Presidents Ronald Regan, Richard Nixon, George
Bush, Attorney General Janet Reno, and many more. In the late afternoon continue
to Aalborg and check into the SAS Radisson Limfjord Hotel. Dinner will be at a
local restaurant in Jomfru Anegade. (B/D)

Day 9
After breakfast drive to Skagen, the top of Denmark, visit the Skagen Museum, have lunch at Skagen harbor at one of the many fresh seafood stalls there. Take a walk in the sand before driving back south southeast to Ebeltoft.  Overnight at Hotel Ebeltoft Strand.  

Day 10
After breakfast visit the old Danish warship restored and placed at Ebeltoft.

“Fregatten Jylland” is today functioning as a maritime museum.  You will also
be able to take a walking guided tour of Old Ebeltoft.  The rest of the day is on your
own to explore and enjoy Ebeltoft. Overnight at Hotel Ebeltoft Strand

 

Day 11
After breakfast morning on your own before going to the local airport at Tirstrup for your short flight to Copenhagen connecting to your flight home.   SAS flight SK943 departs at

1530 and arrives at Chicago at 1740.
