suggested itinerary for family groups or individual travel

Day1, Newark to Copenhagen

Departs from Newark on SAS flight SK910 departing at about 6pm..

Day 2, Copenhagen.

Arriving at 7:30pm at Copenhagen take a taxi to the Strand Hotel at the famous Copenhagen waterfront NYHAVN.  After checking in enjoy a stroll along the canal, have a drink and perhaps your lunch meal at one of the many outside restaurants there.  Cape Horn is known for its traditional Danish Kitchen.  Overnight at the Strand Hotel.

Day 3 , Copenhagen

After breakfast join a morning 3 hour city tour starting from town hall square.  Take a 20 to 30 minute walk up he walking street directly to City Hall, from where the bus will depart.  The tour will give you a good basis for exploring the rest of this Wonderful Copenhagen on your own.  An afternoon visit to Tivoli Gardens, the oldest amusement park in the world(approx. 155 years of age), for an evening meal in Restaurant Grøften, might be in order.  Overnight at the Strand Hotel.

Day 4 , Copenhagen

After breakfast

Pick up a rental car and start your drive to Frederiksborg Castle, a Danish National Museum.  Continue driving north to Gilleleje Harbor, for a late Lunch on your own perhaps at Karen and Marie’s Restaurant.  Here you will be able to see the remnants of the Danish Resistance movements efforts in saving our Danish Jews from Nazi capture, on 23 Oct. 1943.  By driving by the Library, you can see a statue donated to the village by the President of Israel, as well as the Hull of a Fisherman’s vessel, used in those days to transport people, clandestinely, to Sweden. After Lunch you should start your drive to the island of Fyn, pass Roskilde Cathedral, stop and see it if you have time, continue and cross over the Great Belt Bridge. Upon arrival on the Island of Fyn, continue the drive Southwest to Faaborg, and Hvedholm Castle for your dinner and overnight.

Day 5, Hvedholm Castle – Egeskov - Odense – Hvedholm Castle

After breakfast drive to Egeskov Castle and enjoy a day seeing this private Castle and antique collection.  Continue to drive to Odense if you wish to see Hans Christian Andersen’s Home and Museum.  Return to Hvedholm castle for dinner and overnight.

Day 6, Hvedholm Castle – Ribe
After breakfast start driving to Boyden for the ferry crossing to Als.  Continue driving to Esbjerg and on to Ribe.  At Ribe you will check into the Dagmar Hotel Situated directly across the street from the Ribe Cathedral dating back to 1125AD.  Spend the afternoon seeing this old town, the oldest in Denmark, and visit the Cathedral. After dinner on your own in the hotel, at 8:00pm you can take an evening stroll with the famous night watchman, making his rounds, As they have done for several hundred years. He will sing and tell a little of Ribe’s History. Overnight at Dagmar Hotel.

Day 7, Ribe - Legoland - Silkeborg

After breakfast take a walk through old Ribe visit the old Arrest next to the Cathedral, which is now used as a hotel.  Continue the drive northward and stop at Billund, where you may want to visit Legoland. 

Late afternoon continue to Silkeborg for your overnight.

Day 8, Silkeborg - Bjerringbro

After breakfast look up your heritage………….spend the day in that area.  Overnight at hotel.

Day 9, Bjerringbro

After breakfast continue to search for your heritage. Overnight at hotel.

Day 10, Bjerringbro Randers

After breakfast drive to Randers, and see this old town.  The Storkäs Nests are still there, on the roofs of the Old buildings in town, if you are lucky you may see one.  Visit the raltives in this area.  Overnight at the hotel.

Day 11, Randers - Copenhagen

After breakfast start your drive out to Ebeltoft, and spend the day strolling this wonderful old town.  Late afternoon board the Catamaran Ferry to Sjællands Odde, and drive to Roskilde.  There you should visit the Cathedral dating back to 1120AD.  See all the old gravestones for the majority of the Danish Royal Family.  Continue to Copenhagen check into the hotel, and then return the rental car at the downtown office.  Perhap have a farewell dinner in Tivoli.  Overnigth at the Copenhagen Strand Hotel.

Day 12, Copenhagen - Home
After breakfast do some last minute shopping, before going to the airport by taxi for a 10am check-in.

Your SAS flight departs about 1220.
