Day 01:
Arrive at Colombo and transfer to Negombo. Dinner and overnight at Browns Beach
Hotel
Day 02 :
After breakfast proceed to Sigiriya en-route visiting the Elephant Orphanage
Pinnawela. This orphanage is a home for about 60 elephants, out of which some are baby
elephants, found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. They are being cared for, fed and
trained by the wild life authorities. The best time for your visit is at 09:00am, when you
will have the opportunity of seeing the baby elephants being bottle-fed. You could also
accompany the elephants to a river close by and see them
having their daily baths. Dinner and overnight stay at Kandalama or the Sigiria Village
Hotel.
Day 03:
After breakfast proceed to climb the 5th century Sigiriya Rock Fortress,
which is a world heritage site, built by King Kasiappa (473-491 A.D.). The "Lion
Rock" is a citadel of unusual beauty, rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The
rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart, and
extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit
the world-renowned frescoes of the "heavenly Maidens" of Sigiriya, which are in
a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. These frescoes are painted
in earth pigments on plaster. In the evening visit Dambulla Rock Temple. Climb up to the
temple, which was built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C. Dambulla is
a world Heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lankas cave temples. The
complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and the ceilings are the
largest areas of paintings found in the world. These caves contain over 150 images of the
Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock
spanning 14 meters. Dinner and overnight stay at Kandalama or the Sigiriya Village Hotel.
Day 04:
After breakfast proceed to Kandy. En-route visit a spice garden in Matale to see the
different spices, which Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different
spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. In the afternoon do a
city tour. Kandy was the last capital of Sri Lankan kings, which is a world heritage site.
The name Kandy conjures visions of splendor and magnificence. Many of the legends,
traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy Lake built
by the last Sinhala King, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1806. Visit the Kandy town and
Bazaar, the arts and crafts centre and a gem museum and a lapidary. In the evening visit
the Temple of the Tooth Relic and thereafter witness a cultural show featuring traditional
Sri Lankan dancing. Dinner and overnight stay at Mahaweli Reach or the Hotel Hilltop
Hotel.
Day 05:
After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya, en-route visiting the Peradeniya Botanical
gardens. This botanical garden was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king. And
was expanded by the British. It is 147 acres in extent and provides an amazing variety of
trees, plants and flowers. Also visit a Tea Factory and a Tea Plantation. Evening at
leisure at Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya also has one of the finest 18 hole golf courses in
South Asia. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Tea Factory or the Galway Forest Lodge.
Day 06:
Full day at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Tea Factory or theGalway
Forest Lodge.
Day 07:
After breakfast proceed to Bentota via Kitulgala. Kitulgala is the place where famous
"Bridge on the River Kwai film was made. Also en-route observe the water falls St.
Clares and Devon. Dinner and overnight stay at Taj Exotica or the Golden Sun Hotel
Kalutara.
Day 08:
Full day at leisure on the beach. Dinner and overnight stay at Taj Exotica or the
Golden Sun Hotel.
Day 09:
After breakfast proceed to Colombo and check in at Taj Samudra or the Intercontinental
Hotel Colombo. In the evening do a city tour. Colombo like many capital cities in
developing countries is fast changing its face. Yet in some parts, the Old World charm is
retained. For example, there is a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built
colonial buildings. Other places of interest are, parliament in Fort, residential areas,
where you find the stately homes of the affluent, the Bandaranaike Memorial International
Conference Hall BMICH, an outright gift to Sri Lanka from the Peoples
republic of China, also visit the majestic City Shopping complex and the House of Fashion
dress boutique. Dinner and overnight stay at Taj Samudra or the Intercontinental Hotel
Colombo.
Day 10:
After breakfast proceed to the airport for your onward flight.
Please note we have avoided the problematic North part of Sri Lanka.
