17 Day
Itinerary for Classical Egypt from $2795.00
Day 1
Wednesday.
Departure from USA home city via Chicago, New York or
Seattle
on SAS to Copenhagen, arriving the next morning at 07:30.
Day 2 Thursday.
After arrival at Copenhagen in the morning, there is one
hour
before you need to check-in at Copenhagen for your Maersk
Air
flight to Egypt. You will arrive at Hurghada on The Red
Sea at
3:30pm. You will transfer by bus to Luxor where you will
check-
in at the Isis Hotel. The evening is free on your own.
Day 3, Friday.
After Breakfast, the day is free but there is an optional
excursion
to the sound and light show in The Karnak Temple. This is
an
optional arrangement.
Day 4 Saturday
After breakfast we will board the Nile Cruise ship at
Luxor, where
the rest of the day is free. You have an optional
excursion which
departs soon after boarding, for the Luxor Temple. Here
you will
see the beautiful Oblique and several wonderful wall
paintings.
The buildings are extremely impressive and formed the
framework
around many official celebrations. Even more impressive
is the
Amon temple in Karnak, which is the largest complex of
temples
holy lakes, chapels and sphinx avenues. You will
overnight on the
ship at Luxor.
Day 5 Sunday
After Breakfast you can relax on the deck. For those who
have
bought the optional excursions package, you will start
with a visit to
the West Bank and continue further to Thebens ghost
town., The
Valley of the Kings, which the Pharaohs chose to be their
final
resting place. Even though the graves have all been
plundered the
area is still very interesting with the many wall
paintings.
Hereafter the tour goes to the Queen Hatchepsut's Temple
and the
Memnon Colossus. You will return to the ship late
afternoon.
In the evening you sail towards Edfu.
Day 6 Monday
After breakfast day is on your own at leisure, unless you
are taking
part in the excursion after lunch into Edfu, where the
best preserved
temples of Egypt are located. You will drive by horse
drawn carts
to the Horus Temple, with a giant Pylon Gate and a
beautiful
statue of Horus. Late afternoon you return to the boat
and the
evening sailing goes towards Kom Ombo.
Day 7 Tuesday
After Breakfast the tour participants will visit the Kom
Ombo Nile
Temple. This Temple is Egypts only double Holy site. The
Temple is dedicated to the to Gods - Sobek and Haroeris.
Everything here is in duplicate i.e. stairs, pillar halls
and the most
holy. In the afternoon you return to the ship, and the
sailing
continues towards Aswan. You can enjoy the late afternoon
on deck.
Day 8 Wednesday
After Breakfast we disembark the Nile Cruise ship and
check into
the Isis Aswan Hotel where you will spend the next two
nights.
The tour participants will visit the Aswan Dam, The
Philae
Temples, You will also see the unfinished Oblique. The
afternoon
is free, although as an additional option the guide will
arrange a
Felukka sailing.
Day 9 Thursday
After breakfast the day is on your own to explore Aswan.
Day 10 Friday
After breakfast the morning is free and at noon time you
will be
transferred to the train station. You will board the
night train to
Cairo via Luxor. Dinner and breakfast will be served on
board the
train. Your quarters will be on a shared basis two to a
cabin. There
is a bar car on the train.
Day 11 Saturday
After breakfast on the train you will arrive at Cairo
very early in the
morning. Here you will transfer to the Forte Grand Hotel.
The
hotel is located within walking range from the Pyramids
in Giza.
The rest of the day is free for individual exploring of
the area.
Cairo is Africas Largest city, filled with Bazaars,
Mosques,
and Minarettes.
Day 12 Sunday
after breakfast those who are participating in the tour
package
will be picked up early by bus for a tour to Memphis, the
old
Capital of Egypt. After that the tour goes to Djozer's
"step"
Pyramid in Sakkara and at last but not least the three
pyramids
at Giza.
Day 13 Monday
After breakfast the day in Cairo is on your own. The tour
leader
can arrange an additional optional excursion to the city
of
Alexandria.
Day 14 Tuesday
After breakfast in Cairo those who are participating will
visit the
Egyptian Museum at Cairo, with the finds from King
Tutankhamons Grave in Theben. You will see the beautiful
"Golden Mask" and thousands of other valuable
finds.
After lunch you will visit the large Mohammed Ali Mosque
(The Alabaster Mosque) located at the Citadel. The tour
ends at
the largest Bazaar Khan el Khalili.
Day 15 Wednesday
The day is on your own for last minute shopping and
private
excursions.
Day 16 Thursday
After breakfast you will transfer to the airport for your
return flight to Copenhagen leaving Cairo mid-afternoon.
You
will arrive Copenhagen at approximately 8:45pm and
transfer to
your hotel the Dan Hotel, just outside the airport (or
similar
category). It is recommeded to take a trip into the city
center, only
a 20 minute cab ride from the hotel. A stroll down the
famous
walking street "Stroeget" is recommended. You
can find many
small bars and restaurants at Nyhavn, (the waterfront of
the old
part of the city). Copenhagen is a 24 hour city and
incidentally the
Radisson - SAS Hotel Scandinavia has the citys only
Casino, open
until 04:00am.
Day 17 - Friday
After Breakfast transfer back to the airport for your
trip home.
Your SAS flight departs at 10:30am and you should
check-in 2
hours prior. You have just enough time to do some last
minute
duty free shopping, Copenhagen Airport shopping center
being one
of the best in Europe.
Tour includes air transportation, all transfers ,
breakfast daily, with
full board on Nile Cruise. Based on two persons sharing a
twin
bedded room.
Optional tour package should be bought as a whole and
this can be
arranged separately, prior to departure. Other options as
mentioned
will be arranged on the spot.
