Day 1, Saturday
Departure from USA home city via Chicago or Miami to San Jose Costa Rica.
Meat local guide and transfer to Hotel Bouganvilla.
Welcome dinner. (D)

Day 2, Sunday
After breakfast join the "Coffee Plantation & Butterfly Farm" Tour. You will
see how coffee is produced and processed for export. This will include a
theater musical performance depicting the coffee culture. After you will
drive to the Butterfly Farm where you can experience the rearing of live
butterflies for export. The farm you will visit is presently the largest
commercial butterfly farm in the Western Hemisphere, exporting over 50,000
chrysalides annually. Return to the hotel in the afternoon and overnight at
the Hotel Bougainvillea.  Welcome dinner at La Cocina de Lena.
You will be transferred to your Hotel Bougainvillea.(B/D)

Day 3 Monday
After Breakfast you will join a tour to Irazu Volcano . You will drive past
the ancient capital city of Cartago, founded by the Spaniards in 1564 and
site of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, patron saint of Costa Rica.
You will stop at the brink of the crater at 3432 meters above sea level.
Dinner and overnight at Bouganvillea Hotel. (B/D)

Day 4 Tuesday
After breakfast you will take the road across the National Park and Cloud
Forest Braulio Carrillo. Next to the park you will see the aerial tram.
There you will experience how the tram was constructed. Later you will ride
in the gondolas of the tram. Above the rain forest you will enjoy the unique
experience of observing the canopy of the forest.  Continue to drive to the
National park Poas Volcano.  At Alajuela you will start to ascent the
volcano. The Poas Volcano is considered to have the largest crater in the
world. It is an andesitic-balsatic strato-volcano that towers 2,708 meters
above sea level. At the bottom of the crater there is a hot water mineral
lake 350 meters in diameter. Through a natural trail you will walk to Lake
Botos. Later the tour will take you to Sarchi, famous for its multicolored
wooden crafts. In the afternoon you will drive Drive through picturesque
roads passing Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui and San Miguel to the San Carlos
Lowlands, agriculturally one of the richest regions in the country, you will
reach La Fortuna. Dinner and overnight at Tabacon Lodge. (B/D)

Day 5 Wednesday
After breakfast visit La Fortuna, continue to tour the Arenal Volcano National
park and Tabacon Resort.  Arenals heat gives birth tocomfortably warm natural springs.    This volcano is one of the worlds most active erupting daily on a small scale. The tour will end at Tabacon, a very nice resort, with 5 natural
thermo-mineral fresh water swimming pools with temperatures varying
from 27 to 39 degrees Celsius. (97-121 F). Three bars and a restaurant
overlooks the Arenal Volcano as part of the resort. Dinner will be at The
Tabacon Resort.  Overnight at Tabacon Lodge. (B/D)

Day 6 Thursday
After breakfast we will continue on to San Carlos around the Arenal Lake and
through the picturesque city of Tilaran TO MONTEVERDE.
Overnight at Hotel Monteverde Lodge. Dinner is on your own. (B)

Day 7 Friday
After breakfast you will visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve of
10,0000ha. (24,710 acres) of private reserve, which is always cold and
humid thanks to the rain clouds coming from the Caribbean. This is where
the golden frogs and resplendent Quetzal (one of 400 kinds of birds)
are found.  The area is also the habitat of Emeral Toucanet, Black Guan, Slate throated Redstart, black-faced Solitaire, Prong-billed Barbet, many
ovenbirds and tanagers. In 1950 a small group of "Quakers" founded
Monteverde which today is home to a local cheese factory, producing
over 20,000 pounds of the best Costa Rican cheese weekly.
Drive to Manuel Antonio. Overnight at HOTEL EL PARADOR  (B/D)

Day 8 Saturday
After breakfast you will drive to and visit Manuel Antonio National Park and
beaches. There are four interesting features, the first being "tombolo" on
Cathedral Point which joins the ancient Cathedral Island, where Espadilla
Sur and Manuel Antonio Beaches are located. The second is the blow-hole at Escondido Harbor. The third is Serrucho Point honey-combed with sea
caves, the fourth is the pre-Colombian under water turtle trap on the
western tip of Manuel Antonio Beach. Overnight at Manuel Antonio Area -
Hotel El Parador (B

Day 9 Sunday
After breakfast transfer across the Aquacate Mountains to San Jose.
Overnight at Hotel Bougainvillea. Farewell dinner at the Inti Grill
restaurant (B/D)

Day 10 Monday
After breakfast check-out and transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)

Tour includes tour escort, air transportation from Chicago, (can be arranged from any city at slight variance in cost), all hotels meals tours transfers as indicated. Based on 2 persons sharing. All taxes, baggage handling.
